Roofing Roots Meet Solar Expertise

We’ve worked in solar since 2006, but our experience with the homes beneath those systems goes back much further. O’Donnell Solar is the sister company of O’Donnell Roofing, bringing together two decades of solar knowledge and more than 100 years of roofing expertise. That background helps us look at the complete property before recommending solar. Homeowners receive straightforward information, careful roof evaluations, and practical guidance without the aggressive sales approach commonly associated with large national solar companies.

More Ways to Power What’s Next

Generating electricity on your property gives you options for how your household uses and manages energy. Solar can help lower reliance on utility-supplied electricity today while supporting additional technology in the future. Battery storage can provide backup power when outages occur, while EV charging can accommodate changing transportation needs. Together, these technologies can create a more resilient home energy setup, giving homeowners greater independence and more predictable control over where their electricity comes from.

FAQs

Shedding Light On Solar

How long do solar panels last?

Solar technology, materials and manufacturing processes have improved significantly in the last ten years and with no moving parts, solar panels are inherently very reliable. Despite being warranted to produce power for 25 years, there are plenty of examples of solar panels producing energy well beyond that.

Yet it’s still important that the your solar contractor is using solar panels from a reputable brand and, more importantly, a manufacturer that’s likely to be in business for the full 25-year duration of the solar panel warranty. After all, the best warranty isn’t worth much if the warranty provider is out of business.

How long does the solar installation process take?

Every project is different, but the overall process often includes design, permitting, utility approvals, and installation. Our team will keep you informed throughout each phase of your project.

Do solar panels work when it’s cloudy or it snows?

Yes, solar panels can still generate electricity on cloudy days, although production may be reduced. The amount of electricity that solar panels produce is directly proportional to the light that they receive. On a cloudy day or with light snow cover, less light will reach the solar cells and so the solar panels will produce less electricity. Though solar panels may still produce electricity with light snow cover, heavy snow cover of more than a few inches will block nearly all light to the solar cells and cause them to stop producing electricity. However, snow does not stick well to the glass surface of a solar panel and will slide off relatively quickly, clearing the way for the solar panels to start producing electricity again.
