Solar Roofing For Historic District Homes

Solar roofing combines a roof replacement with renewable energy in one project. O’Donnell Solar installs CertainTeed systems including Solstice® and SunStyle® that sit flush with the roofline instead of standing off it. That matters more in West Chester than in most towns, because homes in the Borough Historic District need Historic Architecture Review Board approval before a building permit is issued, and a low profile integrated array is a far easier case to make than a conventional rack. If a reroof is already on your list, price this side by side with panels.

A Chester County Solar Installer Since 2006

We have been installing solar in Southeastern Pennsylvania since 2006, which is longer than most of the companies quoting you. Backed by O’Donnell Roofing, our crews understand what a solar array does to a roof over twenty five years, not just on install day. We sell owned systems, not leases, so the federal tax credit and your SREC income stay with you. And we lead with education rather than a same day discount that expires at midnight.

Power Your Home, Your Way

Today’s solar systems offer much more than monthly energy savings. They can support a more independent lifestyle while creating opportunities for future energy upgrades. Many West Chester homeowners choose to pair solar with battery storage systems for backup power or prepare for electric vehicle ownership with home charging solutions. Producing your own electricity can help reduce reliance on the grid while creating greater stability and control over your home’s energy future for years to come.

FAQs

Shedding Light On Solar

How long do solar panels last?

Solar technology, materials and manufacturing processes have improved significantly in the last ten years and with no moving parts, solar panels are inherently very reliable. Despite being warranted to produce power for 25 years, there are plenty of examples of solar panels producing energy well beyond that.

Yet it’s still important that the your solar contractor is using solar panels from a reputable brand and, more importantly, a manufacturer that’s likely to be in business for the full 25-year duration of the solar panel warranty. After all, the best warranty isn’t worth much if the warranty provider is out of business.

How long does the solar installation process take?

Every project is different, but the overall process often includes design, permitting, utility approvals, and installation. Our team will keep you informed throughout each phase of your project.

Do solar panels work when it’s cloudy or it snows?

Yes, solar panels can still generate electricity on cloudy days, although production may be reduced. The amount of electricity that solar panels produce is directly proportional to the light that they receive. On a cloudy day or with light snow cover, less light will reach the solar cells and so the solar panels will produce less electricity. Though solar panels may still produce electricity with light snow cover, heavy snow cover of more than a few inches will block nearly all light to the solar cells and cause them to stop producing electricity. However, snow does not stick well to the glass surface of a solar panel and will slide off relatively quickly, clearing the way for the solar panels to start producing electricity again.
